Come and see the willow industry … from the Withy Bed to the Basket at the Willows & Wetlands Visitor Centre … the Centre is owned and run by the Coate family, who have been growing willow on the Somerset Levels since 1819. Entry to the Visitor Centre is free to include Basket Museum, Willows & Wetlands DVD, Willow Walks, and Retail Courtyard - you will find a warm welcome and are invited to learn about the history and art of willow growing and basket making. Dogs on leads are welcome to all areas.
We offer guided tours, these are conducted by our experienced staff and include all aspects of willow growing, processing and basket making.
Guided tours lasting approximately one hour take place twice a day at 11am and 2.30pm Monday - Friday. There is no need to book in advance for these tours, just call into the shop and purchase a ticket. There are no guided tours on bank holidays.
Price Adults £5.50 per person
Children (5-14 years) - £3.50 per person.
Under 5's are welcomed free of charge.

This unique private collection of willow baskets and related items was started by Chris and Anne Coate in the early 1970's and continues to grow today. Browse through our rare collection of baskets dating from the 1850s to the present time. There is something to amaze, amuse and inspire all ages.
You can watch our film "The Heart of the English Willow Industry" in the comfort of the museum. This 40 minute film takes you through the almost 200 year history of this family business and the fascinating story of the annual willow growing cycle. It explains the way we are keeping the best of this most traditional of industries, whilst also looking towards the future.
Our free Willow Walks leaflet is available in the shop. There is a gentle walk through our withy beds, or a longer circular walk along the River Tone and up to the viewpoint on the top of Windmill Hill. Here you can sit and take a rest and enjoy the view across Hay Moor and Curry Moor to the far distance.
In our shop you will find an enormous range of baskets, from the unusual and decorative to the traditional and practical. There are baskets for shopping, logs, and storage together with willow furniture, bird feeders, fencing hurdles, plant climbers, sculptures and much more. If you can’t find what you are looking for please discuss your needs with a member of staff as we do offer a bespoke service and can make to your own measurements or replicate basket styles.
