Erect your hurdles as soon as possible after purchase while
they are still supple. If storing for longer than 2 weeks, stand
upright and allow air to circulate between each panel.

Supporting your willow hurdle
We recommend using 4" half round fencing posts, sunk
well into the ground. Secure hurdles well. They may be nailed
onto the posts, as willow does not split. Alternatively metal
ties can be used. Use galvanised nails. The earlier and more
securely the hurdles are fixed the longer they will last.
Preserving your willow hurdle
Use an outdoor wood preservative to prolong the life of your
hurdles. This cannot be applied until the willow has dried
out (anything from 4-12 weeks or more, depending on the time
of year and the weather).
Alternative Preservatives
1) Creosote - very effective, but can be harmful to plants
2) Water based preservative, less effective than creosote
but not harmful to plants.
3) A 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and turpentine, the
traditional method of preserving willow.
